Hosted by the Quality of Life Program of the Center for Ethics and the School of Medicine at Emory, this monthly seminar focuses on ethics in clinical practice. Each seminar meets from 4:00-5:00pm and features a presentation on applied ethics in the speaker's area of expertise. Jewish Bioethics as a Model for Contemporary Society
Dr. Baruch Brody is the 2007 Tenenbaum Lecturer in Judaic Studies at Emory University. As the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Humanities in the Department of Philosophy at Rice University, he directs the ethics program at The Methodist Hospital. Professor Brody is also the Leon Jaworski Professor of Biomedical Ethics and director of the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine, where he regularly joins students, interns and residents on grand rounds. A prolific author on such topics as abortion, life and death decision-making, and the ethics of biomedical research, Dr. Brody has served on many boards and advisory committees for medical institutes and has helped 11 healthcare institutions organize their ethics committees. Protecting the Rights and Welfare of Human Research Subjects
Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of Yale University’s Interdisciplinary Bioethics Center, Professor of Medicine and Lecturer in Pharmacology at Yale University School of Medicine, past Chair of the Institutional Review Board at Yale-New Haven Medical Center, and Director of the Law, Policy and Ethics Core of Yale University’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS, Dr. Levine will speak on research ethics as regards human subjects.
